Pingloo

An endless runner arcade action game featuring penguins.

orb

Project Overview

Pingloo is a light-hearted endless runner built around a playful but urgent survival fantasy: a convoy of penguins is transporting their melting igloo across dangerous frozen terrain to reach a safer homeland. The player protects the igloo by steering through hazards, collecting restorative pickups, and making fast decisions under pressure.

High Concept

The game blends the readability of mobile runners with a charming arctic identity. The hook is simple: the igloo acts as both cargo and life bar. Every obstacle, delay, and mistake increases melt pressure, while pickups and good routing help the player preserve the convoy for as long as possible.

Design Pillars

• Readable challenge: hazards should be easy to identify in a split second.
• Momentum and tension: the player should feel constant forward pressure as the igloo melts over time.
• Short-session fun: runs should be easy to start, quick to understand, and satisfying to replay.
• Playful personality: penguins, cargo, and arctic props should keep the tone light rather than punishing.

Core Gameplay Loop

  1. Move between lanes or vertical positions to avoid incoming hazards.

  2. React to interactive threats such as snowballs and environmental obstacles.

  3. Collect health-restoring or defensive power-ups to slow the melt and extend the run.

  4. Survive longer to improve score, distance, and mastery

Player Controls

• Swipe up or down to change position and dodge hazards.
• Double tap to jump over pits or low obstacles.
• Tap or drag interactive projectiles away from the truck, or redirect useful objects toward the igloo when
appropriate.
• Drive through friendly carriers to collect power-ups.

Melt Bar

The melt bar is the primary fail-state system. It steadily depletes over time and also takes direct damage from
collisions. Maintaining the melt bar gives the player a clear goal every second of play.

Obstacles and Hazards

• Snowballs: thrown by hostile creatures; create disruption and can damage progress if not handled.
• Mites: puncture or slow the vehicle for a short duration, reducing momentum.
• Rocks: cause direct melt-bar damage on impact.
• Landslides: combine movement disruption with chip damage.
• Pits: instant run-ending hazard if the truck falls in.
• Loose objects such as hockey sticks or ski gear: random traffic hazards that punish poor positioning.

Power-Ups and Recovery

Friendly characters such as seals, fish, or squid can present collectible power-ups. These pickups are intended to
create brief emotional recovery beats inside an otherwise escalating run.
• Health restore: replenishes part of the melt bar.
• Shield or freeze protection: temporarily prevents melt damage from hazards.
• Speed recovery: offsets slow effects and restores flow after disruption.

Scoring and Motivation

Primary performance metrics include distance traveled, survival time, and pickups collected. A simple post-run summary screen shows at the end to support replayability by showing best run, current run, and notable milestones.
